Ixchel
(pronounced Ish-shell) is the Mayan goddess of the moon,
childbirth, healing and weaving. To the ancient Mayan culture
of Central America, the the phases of the moon were associated
with the cycles of humans. The Mayan's God of the Moon, Itzamna,
was married to the powerful Goddess Ixchel.
Ixchel
is the protector of women in childbirth and a Goddess of medicine.
She is also the Goddess of weaving and is often shown sitting
peacefully at a loom. Her animal is the dragonfly. Call on the
Goddess Ishell when you wish to express and inspire your creativity.
She helps make women fruitful and sends rain to the earth.
About My Original
Design
My
Ixchel Designer Necklace is strung with three handmade
ceramic beads with a mother-of-pearl finish. Plus four foil center
lampworked glass oval beads with spirals on the surface.
Also
four cast pewter spiral disks with fine silver finish, sterling
silver bali spacers and a designer sterling silver S hook clasp
complete the design. All interspersed with czech glass beads in
colors of light & medium turquoise.
This
necklace includes my original design of an Ixchel pendant,
handmade from natural earth clays, and fired to over 2,000
degrees. It has a soft sea foam blue glaze with a mother of pearl
finish. 22kt white gold luster is used to accent her large "earrings"
and chunky necklace. The final step, after three firings in the
kiln, is to hand-wrap her with sterling wire with a "sash"
resembling an indigenous woven waist belt. A bold coiled spiral
adorns her head and forms the bead bail.
