Isis was the
Great Mother Goddess of the Universe, worshipped in Egypt, Greece,
Rome, and Germany. She brought life and immortality and brought
the arts, language, medicine and architecture to her peoples.
In the Egyptian
story, when her beloved Osiris was killed and his body scattered
in pieces, she went in search of them, finding each and reassembling
them. Through her devotion and magical healing, she was able to
bring Osiris back to life and from their union, she conceived their
son, Horus.
Often depicted
with wings in a gesture of awakening and receptivity, or sitting
with Horus in her lap, showing her mothering qualities.
