Oya
is the Yoruba Goddess of Change and Transformation. She is the
powerful Primeval Mother of Chaos. Oya brings about sudden
dramatic change in people and objects. She is the Goddess of the
winds and of tropical weather. Her power manifests in lightning,
fire, tornadoes, earthquakes and storms of all kinds.
Oya
cuts through stagnation and makes the way for new growth. Her
magical number is Nine. Oya is the first breath and the
last, the one who carries the spirits of the dead across the threshold
to other worlds. A powerful goddess of transformation, harness
the forces of Oya when you are in need of dramatic change
in people, places or things.
My Oya
goddess pendant is handmade, incised with concentric circles
into the wet clay. Glazed a soft transparent gray-blue with mother-of-pearl
finish, then fired and wrapped with sterling silver wire. The
ceramic piece is fired three times, first to harden the natural
earth clay, next to melt the glaze and a final firing to bake
on the mother-of-pearl finish.
