Yemaya
(pronounced Yey-maya) is the African Yoruban Goddess of
the sea. Yemaya is the creator/mother goddess who gave
birth to the 14 orisha spirits.
Yemaya
was originally worshiped in Africa and later Brazil where she
is know as Iamanja. Yemaya's worshippers send offerings
of gifts and flowers out to sea on little boats. Those who come
to Mother Yemaya with complete surrender find that their
troubles dissolve in the waters of her embrace.
