Pangea,
the Global Supercontinent. Paleontological evidence proposes that originally the
continents were joined into a single supercontinent which was named "Pangea"
- meaning "all the Earth." As the sea floor spread Pangea broke
up and the continents began to drift away from each another, finally assuming
their present positions. All of this took place during the in the Permian to Early
Jurassic periods, some 200 million years ago. Read more about this at http://www.palaeos.com/Earth/Geography/Pangea.htm.
The
Pangea Disk Neckace was assembled from vintage and new parts. A vintage glass
domed earring with copper inlaid inside reminded me of the Pangea continents,
when all were one. The disk earring was attached to brass and copper disks and
adorned on the back with a filigree brass piece and a little lapis earring.
