Sedna
is the Inuit Creatrix who sustains all life. She swims in the ocean and is the
guardian of all who worship her.
The
Story of Sedna
In the beginning, Sedna was a beautiful woman, but was
not happy with the many men who tried to woo her. Called by a seagull with hopes
of plenty of food and servants, she followed them and lived with the bird spirits.
But promises of plenty were replaced with filth and squalor. When her father visited,
she begged him help her return home with him across the waters. She was pursued
and to save his life, her father threw Sedna overboard. As she tried to climb
back into the boat, he cut off her fingers which transformed into fish and sea
mammals, filling the oceans with abundant life.
